The Eddy is the new belay device from Edelrid, specifically targeted at sport climbing.

The lever allows a controlled lower, and, if you pulled too far the device will automatically lock. This emergency brake system eliminates the "panic pull" syndrome which can lead to serious accidents when someone forgets to let go!
Due the provision of this emergency brake we feel that the Eddy is less unsuitable for novices than the Gri Gri, that said we still recommend a traditional friction device (such as the ATC XP) for beginners.

The Eddy can be used for single ropes with diameters from 9 to 11mm
Weight: 350g (so not a light piece of kit)

Not suitable for trad climbing.
