This award winning film tells the story of an epic first ascent by Robin Smith and Dougal Haston on Ben Nevis in 1959.

Based on Smith's famous tale "The Bat & The Wicked" and interwoven with extracts from Haston's aoutobiography "In High Places", the naration gives a rare insight into the competitive world of extreme rock climbing. With it's swooping falls, precarious climbing and stunning positions on Ben Nevis, The Bat is an evocative tribute to two of Scotland's greatest climbers.

This film was shot in 1978, with Rab Carrington playing the role of Robin Smith and Brian Hall playing Dougal Haston.
