The curved faces provide 3 points of contact with the rock, which makes the nuts more stable as well as more versatile than straight-sided designs. Metolius have optimised the shape of their nuts by orientating the curve from side to side (rather than top to bottom), making them more stable in flares and making it easier to judge the quality of a placement.
