The range of snow-clad peaks that lie between the Rhone and Aosta valleys contains the greatest concentration of 4,000m peaks in the Alps.
Amongst the mountains described are 27 peaks over 4,000m, whilst not so well known as the Matterhorn many have familiar names, having featured prominently in the long history of mountaineering.
